Hindi Debate Competition at St. Xavier’s College

On the eve of Hindi Diwas, St. Xavier’s College & St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Digha Ghat, Patna glorified the Hindi language by organizing a Hindi Debate on the topic “Yuva Peedhi Evam Hindi Ki Prasangikta” under the guidance of the Academic Committee chaired by Dr. Jaismin Kantha and assisted by Dr. Priyanka Sinha, Mr. Joel D’Cruze and Mrs. Prasad.

Md. Asad Khan, Sagar Joy, Anural and Amarjeet Kumar spoke for the motion. They emphasized the relevance of Hindi for Youth as it is the language that determines the thought process of the majority in India, links youth with the subaltern, inspires nationalistic thoughts.

Vishal Singh, Sandeep Raj, Ankit Verma and Ashutosh Kumar spoke against the motion. They opined that Hindi is no longer relevant in an era of globalization where the world has been reduced to a global village and the link language is not Hindi but English. One cannot avail of all the opportunities of life by pursuing Hindi. Dalit leaders like B R Ambedker and Kancha Illaiah are also in favour of western English education for the uplift of Dalits. Hindi cannot challenge the Western Hegemony.

Anural and Amarjeet were adjudged as the best speakers and the team which spoke for the motion was declared the winner team. Fr. Mathew Poovakkottil SJ, Fr. Sushil Bilung SJ and Fr. Jose Kalapura SJ were the judges. The Rector Fr. Joseph Thadavanal SJ, The Principal Fr. T. Nishaant SJ and The controller of Examination Fr. Raymond Cherubim SJ, Staff and students were present.

Deepa and Siddharth Rathor were the anchors for the Day. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ruchi.
