5th Cherubim Barno Sahu Memorial Award Conferred

5th Cherubim Barno Sahu Memorial Award for significant contribution to Hindi Catholic literature was conferred upon Shri Patrick John of Patliputra, Patna on 22 December 2013.

Archbishop, Most Rev. William D’Souza presented the citation and the award money of Rs.10,000/- to the winner at the annual award ceremony held at Prabhat Prakashan, Digha Ghat, Patna. The Award has been jointly constituted by Patna Archdiocese, Patna Jesuit Society and Prabhat Prakashan. Patrick John, a retired government employee of Bihar state animal husbandry, who has served many years in Zambia as well, has written a couple of books on animal husbandry and a number of articles on Christianity. On Dalit Christians and other Christian issues in the Hindi Catholic family magazine ‘Pavitra Hriday Ka Sandesh’.

Also at this function, 5th Sandesh Kahani Pratiyogita (Short story writing competition) winners were awarded. Lucy Benedict of IGIMS Patna, Shri Birendar Kumar of Ravi Bharati, Patna and Shri Suleman Soren of Godda, Jharkhand won the first, second and third prizes (Rs.2000/-, 1500/- and 1000/- plus certificates) respectively. Consolation prizes were given to Navin Tigga, Budhan Singh and Pramod Kumar (all Jesuit Juniors of Sanjivan Niwas, Patna). Rev. Fr. Jose Vadassery, Sj, the provincial of Patna province and many other dignitaries were present during the award function.
