St. Xavier’s Colleges Celebrate Patron’s Day

The administrative and teaching fraternity, staff and students of St. Xavier’s Colleges, Digha organised a scintillating commemorative and memorializing Patron’s Day in honor of one of its founding members, St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of the Society of Jesus, a dedicated warrior of light as well as a pioneer of peace.

The Chief Guest on the solemn occasion was the eminent Prof. (Dr.) Khalid Mirza, erstwhile Professor of Political Science and Pro Vice Chancellor of Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University, who is currently serving as the Director of Higher Education, Government of Bihar. The Guest of Honor was Sr. M.Vimla Plammottil CJ, member of the worldwide religious Congregation of Jesus founded by the venerable Mother Mary Ward. Both Prof. (Dr.) Mirza and Sr. Vimla share close ties with Xaverian Jesuit society, the former being an alumnus of St. Xavier’s School, Patna and the latter a friend and well-wisher.

The programme began at 9.30 a.m. showcasing the multitudinous talent of students, who depicted scenes from the life of the saint in the form of song, dance, tableau and drama. Marking the ceremonial regalia of the occasion the function was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp, liturgical prayer and words of blessing from the Rector, Fr. Thadavanal, SJ. Students’ stage performances set the stage afire. The programme ended with certificate distribution for co-curricular achievements. The Cultural Committee’s exemplary organizational skills made the show successful.
