Sitar Maestro Pandit Debu Enthralls Students of Xavier’s

Sitar Maestro Padma Bhushan Pandit Debu Chaudhury performed today at St. Xavier’s College and St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology. The programme was organized by SPICMACAY- the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth. The noted sitarist was accompanied by Dr. Rajkumar Nahar on the Tabla and Shri Mayank Raina on the Tanpura.

The programme began with Anural of BBA 2nd year and Arti of BBE 1st year welcoming the artists and the audience. The lecture-demonstration began after the artists were presented with bouquets. Pandit Debu Chaudhury with accompanists regaled the audience comprising St. Xavier’s College students with their informal lecture cum demonstration programme.

Panditji explained what Taal is. He and the accompanists then introduced the students to Raagas Patdeep and Yaman, playing snatches from the film songs ‘megha chaiye addhi raat’ based on raga Patdeep and ‘chandan sa badad’ based on raga Yaman. He also explained how these really old songs are sung and remembered by the youth even today because of their classical base.

The session ended with Panditji answering some questions asked by the students.
