Tapping the Potentials of Laity for Evangelization

Lay collaboration and active participation of the laity in the evangelization process is a felt need of the Church in India. Responding to this need of the local Church, Navjyoti Niketan, Patna organized a 3 day programme titled “Tapping the potentials of laity for Evangelization” for the clergy and the religious of Bihar dioceses from 16 – 19 September 2014, in view of preparing laity for evangelization initiatives. The resource person was (Dr.) Fr. Hippoletus Toppo of Tezpur diocese. There were 26 participants for the programme (12 priests and 14 sisters), who actively participated in all deliberations. Among the participants was the Muzaffarpur Bishop designate, Fr. Cajetan Francis. The programme, which had a rich blend of Fr. Hippoletus’ research in Rome and USA, was supported by his vast pastoral experience in Assam. The programme was well received. We are happy that Fr. Hippoletus has agreed to conduct a 3 day programme exclusively for young priests at Navjyoti in the coming year.
