Entry of Patna Jesuit Province to UP

Treading to the unknown is nothing new to Patna Province. The province has made a bold step to explore the possibilities of mission in Uttar Pradesh as a response to the invitation of Fr. General, ‘to venture into the unreached geographical areas.’ As per the new demarcation of province boundaries, five ecclesiastical dioceses of Uttar Pradesh come under the care of the Patna province. The new understanding came to effect with the official handing over of the house at Varanasi (Vidya Niwas) by Delhi province to Patna province in a simple yet meaningful ceremony on September 9, 2015.

In the presence of a small gathering, during a Eucharistic celebration Fr. Varkey Perekatt, the provincial of Delhi province symbolically handed over Vidya Niwas to Fr. Jose Vadassery, the provincial of Patna by way of exchanging shawl. Fr. Tony Chelakatt, the outgoing superior then handed over the history book to Fr. Edward Mendonca, the new superior of the house. The Eucharist began with a meaningful introduction by Fr. Peter Ignatius. The simple function came to a conclusion with the fellowship meal prepared with much love by the community members of Vidya Niwas. A simple entry of the province to the unknown, hoping much to happen in the near future.
